Bolt Castle

One of the places we like to visit in the summer is Bolt Castle which is located on Heart Island in the Thousand Islands, which is in the St. Lawrence River of New York near Canada. We travel to  Alex Bay, NY and take a boat ride to the Island.  This castle was originally built in 1900 as a summer dream home.  It is 6 stories high and has 120 rooms.  It sat vacant for 70 years before it was bought and restoration has taken place since then.  I visited the castle for the first time in the 1970s when it was opened for tours and was covered with graffiti.  Many parts of it are now restored and are beautiful to see.  Each time the castle there are more rooms that have been restored.
Our family visited the castle last summer and these are the photos I took as my husband and kids were going up the grand staircase and then upper stairs.

I used the scraplift challenge from XOXO.  It is to use 4 photos with the 6X6 grid.  This worked out perfect to show most of the stairs we traveled up in the castle. There are a couple more days to enter their March Challenge at XOXO.  And if you are in upstate New York and need a place to visit head to Boldt Castle at Heart Island.  You can find their information HERE.

  1. This castle sounds amazing Phillis. I love what you have done with it to show it off in these photos. I wish I had more time to explore your beautiful country, as this would be on my list to see. Thanks for playing along at XOXO Scrapbooking and we hope you can join us again for our April challenge.
